PRESS RELEASE: UAVAID and I-CONIC Announce Groundbreaking Technology Partnership for To Speed Up Disaster Assessment

LONDON and STOCKHOLM – 23 November 2023

In a significant stride towards speeding up the emergency response to large-scale disasters and global development in remote areas, UK-based drone specialist UAVaid, and Sweden-based software developer I-CONIC Vision, have officially inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a strategic collaboration.

The collaboration will see the fusion of cutting-edge drone technology with new computer processing techniques, to provide responders and NGO’s with faster creation of large maps, Rapid Area Modelling (RAM) and real time 3D / stereo imaging. Typically, current methods can take days to create large 3D digital models of the landscape.  However, with this partnering of technologies, near real-time assessments could become a reality, significantly enhancing emergency response to ultimately save more lives and speeding up the delivery of development projects.

The MOU will spearhead joint research and development efforts, and will see them bringing to the market new and innovative products and services. This dynamic partnership harnesses the synergies of UAVAID’s drone technologies and established presence, and I-CONIC Vision’s state-of-the-art map processing software.

Daniel Ronen, co-founder of UAVAID Ltd., expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “This partnership marks a significant milestone in our mission to leverage technology for the betterment of society. By integrating our expertise with I-CONIC’s, we aim to revolutionize disaster response, making it faster, more efficient, and ultimately more life-saving.”

Likewise, Mikael Stern, CEO of I-CONIC Vision AB, echoed the sentiment, saying, “We are excited to join hands with UAVAID in this transformative venture. Their aerial drones and rural- context experience are the ideal platforms for partnering with our unique instant GPU based 3D software technology.  Together, we have the potential to redefine how real time 3D is processed and utilized, particularly in critical situations. This collaboration holds great promise for disaster-stricken regions worldwide.”

Furthermore, the partnership extends its reach to support global development, net-zero and reforestation projects in remote regions, particular in Africa. Although drones are increasingly used to ease the time required for mapping challenging areas, data processing demands have remained high.  By leveraging the strengths of their respective technologies, the organizations aim to streamline the workflow, opening doors to rapid mapping in difficult regions.
